Workwear sizing can feel awkward because trousers, polos, shirts, sweatshirts and outer layers are not always cut like everyday clothing. A good fit needs room to move, bend, lift and layer, without becoming baggy or unsafe around tools and machinery.

Quick Measuring Checklist
- Chest: measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape level and relaxed.
- Collar: measure around the base of the neck and allow enough room for one finger under the tape.
- Waist: measure where work trousers naturally sit.
- Inside leg: measure from the crotch seam to where the trouser hem should finish over work footwear.
- Layering: allow extra room for hoodies, fleeces or jackets worn over base layers.
How to Measure Workwear Tops
For T-shirts, polos, sweatshirts, hoodies, fleeces and jackets, chest measurement is usually the starting point. Measure around the fullest part of the chest while wearing a normal base layer. For collared shirts, collar measurement matters as much as chest measurement.
- Measure over the type of base layer the wearer normally uses at work.
- Allow movement across the shoulders for lifting, reaching and driving.
- Choose a larger size for outer layers if they will be worn over hoodies or fleeces.
